Yoakum — 1 Dead, 4 Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on FM 318

Posted on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 at 8:40 pm by Williams Hart

Just after midnight on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, one person was killed, and four were injured in a single-vehicle accident that occurred near Yoakum, Texas.

According to initial reports, a 2017 Buick Regal was traveling north on FM 318 when all of a sudden, it left the road then over-corrected back into the southbound lanes before hitting a concrete culvert at Country Road 395, which caused the car to be airborne. The rear-end of the Buick then struck a tree, and finally, the car came to rest in the grass on the northbound side.

The Buick’s driver, 20-year-old Amber Marie Bennetsen, was pronounced dead at the scene while her passengers — 21-year-old Isaac Garza, 19-year-old Tyron Brooks, and 19-year-old Mariah Torres — were flown to San Antonio Medical Center in serious condition. Only one passenger, 22-year-old Tyrin Smith, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was brought to Yoakum Community Hospital.

All five occupants were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.

Car accidents are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
