Warren — 1 Adult Killed, Several Children Hurt in Bus Accident on U.S. Route 69

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, one adult was killed and several children were injured in a bus accident that occurred in Tyler County, Texas.

According to initial reports, the driver of a bus, 38-year-old Robert Craig, from First Baptist Church of Warren was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 69, when all of a sudden, a passenger vehicle pulled out from a driveway in front of the bus. In an attempt to avoid colliding with the vehicle, Craig tried to maneuver around the vehicle but lost control instead. As a result, the bus traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Craig and one of the adult passengers, 62-year-old Doug Sheffield, were brought to hospitals with serious injuries. Meanwhile, a second adult passenger, 42-year-old James Craft Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus carried six children, ages ranging from 9 to 14 years old, and they were all brought to separate hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is still ongoing for this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Vehicular accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet, they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

An accident involving a bus is a particular kind of vehicular accident, and it is fairly common even though buses are often deemed as a safe mode of transportation. According to the NHTSA, between 2000 and 2007, there have been 1,093 fatal bus accidents, and from this number, about 1,315 people died, and 3,471 were injured. In other words, about 137 bus-crash-related fatalities occur every year.

Vehicular accidents, especially bus accidents, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in bus accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
