At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2019, a young boy was killed in a vehicular accident that occurred in Waco, Texas.
According to initial reports, a vehicle was initially involved in a two-vehicle accident that happened at South 18th Street and Primrose Drive. However, as two officers were checking on the people involved in this accident, the driver of the vehicle began to drive away. The officers began to pursue the fleeing driver, but the chase ended after the vehicle slammed into a tree near South 4th Street and Garden Drive.
When officers arrived, they found a boy upside down in a car. He was brought to the hospital but developed medical complications and died a short time later.
Omar Hilario Sanchez, the 27-year-old driver of the fleeing vehicle, is charged with injury to a child and evading in a motor vehicle causing death.
The crash still remains under investigation.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the young boy. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.
Car accidents are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families.
