Today, the trial team of Jim Hart and Steve Kherkher secured a $16.5 million-dollar verdict on behalf of two ironworkers who were injured by a crane operator during the removal and installation of a large glass window at the new Apple store on Westheimer. The workers both broke their backs when the scissor lift they were on was knocked over by the crane operator after he lost control of the crane. Maxim Crane Works, LP was held accountable for the accident and rightfully so, as the accident would not have occurred if industry regulations and standards had been followed by the crane operator and the company.

Jim Hart, partner at Williams Hart, has been named Litigator of the Week by Texas Lawyer for his work in achieving an $11 million dollar verdict for the family of a man killed in an accident involving a tanker truck carrying explosive materials. Hart and his partner Steve Kherkher, who also served as counsel on the case, brought a claim against X-Chem and NCH Corp. for gross negligence in causing the death of Daniel Rhodes.
Jim and Steve chose to pursue compensation from these companies, and not the driver of the vehicle, because of serious failures in the driver’s training which caused him to mistakenly attempt to return to the road after he was allegedly forced off by another truck. The jury agreed with the arguments set forth and delivered a verdict of $11 million in favor of the family, assessing 25% liability to X-Chem and 75% to NCH Corp.
Williams Hart attorney Jim Hart is proud to have the opportunity to speak at the Texas Building and Construction Trades Council State Convention. A local union member lost the tip of his index finger at work, and when he met with a local law firm he was told that his injury was only worth about $4,000.00. A union representative told him to call Jim Hart, and through Jim’s efforts, the worker was able to secure a $40,000.00 settlement. The union representative says that the injured worker was very appreciative for all of Jim’s hard work.
