San Antonio — Distracted Driver Causes Crash on Texas 1604 Loop

Posted on Monday, June 10th, 2019 at 9:42 pm

On the afternoon of Saturday, June 8, 2019, a driver was injured in a car accident caused by distracted driving that occurred in San Antonio, Texas.

According to initial reports, the 41-year-old driver was traveling eastbound on Texas 1604 Loop in a four-door sedan. He was talking on his cellphone as he was driving, and as a result, he didn’t realize he was veering into oncoming lanes. Near the intersection of Campbellton Road, the driver then sideswiped a white pickup truck and the bed of the truck clipped the sedan, causing the sedan to spin before crashing.

The driver of the sedan was extracted from the vehicle, and he was brought to a hospital with a broken leg. He is expected to recover.

An 8-year-old girl was also inside the sedan during the crash, but she was not injured. The 26-year-old driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was checked out by EMS crews at the scene.

Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.

It is great to hear that the victims in this accident are expected to recover. Unfortunately, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

There are three most common causes for car accidents, and these are DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), speeding, and driving while distracted. More often than not, the latter constitutes using of cellphone while driving.

Car accidents are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
