Denton — Employee Dies After Getting Caught in Machinery at Target Warehouse on Airport Road

Posted on Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 at 9:31 pm by Williams Hart

A Target employee was killed in a workplace accident that occurred in Denton, Texas on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

According to initial reports, Matthew Sopcic, 34, was working at a Target warehouse that is located on Airport Road when he got caught in a piece of large machinery inside a freezer. He was then brought to a hospital in critical condition, and he was pronounced dead a few days later on August 7, 2019.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and local law enforcement are still investigating this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Matthew Sopcic. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Workplace accidents are relatively common in the United States. According to statistics, 5,147 workers were killed on the job in 2017 in the country (3.5 per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers). This can be interpreted as more than 99 deaths a week or more than 14 deaths every day.

In addition to this, there were 4,674 worker fatalities in private industry in the calendar year 2017, with 971 from that number (or 20.7%) being in construction. In other words, one in five worker deaths in 2017 were in construction. The leading causes of private sector deaths in the construction industry — which are referred to as the “Fatal Four” — are falls, struck by an object, electrocution, and caught-in/between. These “Fatal Four” were responsible for about 59.9% of the construction worker deaths in 2017.

Workplace accidents are undeniably terrible for the victims and their respective families. That is why, if you are a victim of a workplace accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help. Workplace accident lawyers are always present, and they will be more than willing to help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.

La Grange — 14-Year-Old Girl Dies After Car Crashes into Fence on Airport Road

Posted on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 at 8:15 pm by Williams Hart

On the afternoon of Friday, August 9, 2019, a teenage girl was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in Fayette County, Texas.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a 2019 Kia Optima was traveling along Airport Road, about four miles east of La Grange, at a high rate of speed when all of a sudden, it lost control around a curve and struck a fence.

Erin Marie Albrecht, 14, was riding in the front passenger seat, and she was airlifted to Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin where she was pronounced dead on Saturday morning.

The crash still remains under investigation.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Erin Marie Albrecht. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.

Car accidents are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers. They will help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.

Waco — 1 Person Dead, 9 Others Injured in Head-On Collision Involving Vans on Lake Shore Drive

Posted on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at 8:10 pm by Williams Hart

On the afternoon of Thursday, July 25, 2019, one person was killed and nine others were injured in a head-on collision that occurred in Waco, Texas.

According to initial reports, a van, that belonged to Waco’s First United Methodist Church, and a second van were traveling along Lake Shore Drive, when nearing the intersection of Airport Road, the two vans collided into each other head-on.

The male driver of the second van was pronounced dead at the scene, and the child with him was brought to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, five high school students and three adult leaders who were riding in the church van were brought to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center with minor injuries.

The crash still remains under investigation.

It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

Moreover, the NHTSA reports that from 1997 to 2006, accidents involving vans led to the deaths of more than 1,000 occupants, with 120 occupants dying in 2004 alone. It has also been noted that vans with more than 10 occupants showed a greatly increased risk of an accident, and in about 83% of the van accident fatalities, the occupants were not wearing any seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Another specific kind of car accident that is incredibly deadly is a head-on collision. The reason why a head-on collision is said to be incredibly deadly is because of the increased force that is sustained by both vehicles. Reports estimate that head-on collisions only comprise 2% of reported crashes, but they account for over 10% of driving fatalities. Some of the common outcomes of a head-on collision are spinal injuries, brain injuries, catastrophic injuries, broken bones, paralysis, and of course death.

Car accidents, especially head-on collisions and van accidents, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents/van accidents/head-on collisions, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers. They will help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.

Posted on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 at 1:20 am by Williams Hart

On Saturday, February 2, 2019, one person was killed after a fatal crash that occurred on Airport Road of Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport in Temple, Texas.

According to initial reports, at around 11 p.m., the driver of one vehicle was about to leave the airport, but this vehicle was struck by another vehicle that was also traveling on Airport Road.

One of the drivers in this collision was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was identified as Random Allen, 38.

Investigation is still ongoing for this particular accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Random Allen. Sadly, he is not the first victim whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays.
