St. Helena Parish, LA — Texas Man Fatally Injured on Louisiana Oil Rig

Posted on Thursday, July 18th, 2019 at 1:56 pm by Williams Hart

On the morning of Friday, May 31st, 39-year-old San Antonio man Jason Eric Leal sustained fatal injuries on the site of an oil rig located at 7055 Highway 449 in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana.

Authorities did not immediately release details on the nature of the accident. The investigation remains ongoing.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2003-2013 the U.S. oil and gas extraction industry experience unprecedented growth leading to a doubling of its workforce and an increase in the number of drilling rigs by 71%. The number of work-related fatalities in the oil and gas extraction industry increased by 27.6%, with a total of 1,189 deaths.

Although the number of oil and gas extraction industry fatalities has been on the decline in more recent years, Mr. Leal’s unfortunate passing is a reminder that oil and gas industry employers must continue implementing measures such as land transportation safety policies and engineering controls that would further reduce workers’ exposure to potentially fatal hazards.

Occupational fatalities in the oil and gas industry are especially difficult for the families of those who have become a victim. Fortunately, there are lawyers who specialize in wrongful death cases and can help you get the justice that your family and loved one deserve.
