SouthCross Energy plant explosion injures two

Two people were injured yesterday in an explosion that took place at a SouthCross Energy plant in Frio County. Deputies from the Frio County Sheriff’s Office immediately established a perimeter around the gas plant and evacuated nearby homeowners.
According to Sergeant Jerry Reyna, workers were able to extinguish the fire resulting from the explosion by shutting off a gas valve. Additionally, he reported that both of the individuals injured in the blast were employees at the plant and one was airlifted to San Antonio to receive treatment. His condition is currently unknown. A female worker was also injured and was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.
SouthCross Energy is currently investigating the explosion and its causes.
