Schertz — Motorcyclist Dead After Interstate 35 Collision

Posted on Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 at 11:30 pm by Williams Hart

At around 2 in the afternoon on Sunday, February 17, 2019, a collision on Interstate 35 North in Schertz left one motorcyclist dead.

According to police reports, Zachary Ryan Hartley, 22, was driving erratically along Interstate 35, north of FM 2252, when he suddenly struck a vehicle. The impact threw him off the motorcycle and into the median between the highway and the access road where he was found. He was brought to the San Antonio Military Medical Central where he was pronounced dead at 2:41 p.m.

According to medical examiner investigators, Hartley died from craniocerebral injuries as he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Investigation is still underway for this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Zachary Ryan Hartley. Alas, he is not the first victim whose life is taken away by a vehicular accident. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

Motorcycle accidents, a type of vehicular accident, are common despite the fact that motorcycles are initially believed to be far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. In 2016, the NHTSA reported that 5,286 people died in motorcycle accidents. In the same year as well, it is reported that motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.

Vehicular accidents, especially those involving motorcycles, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in motorcycle accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
