Santa Fe — Pack of Dogs Maul Man to Death in Galveston County

Posted on Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 at 10:06 pm by Williams Hart   |  Updated: Sunday, September 8th, 2019 at 8:58 pm

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, a man was killed after a pack of dogs attacked him in Santa Fe, Texas.

According to initial reports, Jimmy Lee Grigg was attacked by three dogs at a residence in the 5600 block of Highland Road in Santa Fe, and his brother called 911 to report this, saying that he thought Grigg may be dead. Grigg was then brought to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he later died there.

The dogs were eventually brought to a shelter in Texas City by the Galveston County Animal Resource Center.

An investigation is still ongoing for this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unidentified man. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a dog attack. In a study conducted by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), about 4.7 million dog bites occur in the United States every year, and 800,000 of those bites result in medical care. This can be interpreted as 1 in 69 people getting bitten by a dog annually.

These numbers paint a terrible picture, but according to the National Canine Research Council, 81% of dog bites cause no injury at all or only minor injuries that do not require medical attention. In other words, there is only a 1 in 112,400 chance of dying from a dog bite or strike, so more often than not, dying from a dog bite is highly unlikely.

That said, dog attacks can be fatal when they happen, and they can be as complicated as they are devastating to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers who are experts in cases like this.
