San Antonio — Motorcyclist Dead After Fatal Accident on Interstate 10

Posted on Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 at 1:20 am

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2019, a motorcyclist is killed after sliding under an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20 in San Antonio.

According to police reports, Ernest Drummond, 37, was traveling along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle as he tried to take the ramp from eastbound I-10 to southbound Loop 410. The roadway was slick because of the weather at the time, and so, Drummond slid under an 18-wheeler. He died at the scene.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Ernest Drummond. Alas, he is not the first one whose life is taken away by a vehicular accident. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

Motorcycle accidents, a type of vehicular accident, are common despite the fact that motorcycles are initially believed to be far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. In 2016, the NHTSA reported that 5,286 people died in motorcycle accidents. In the same year as well, it is reported that motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.

Additionally, an accident involving a tractor-trailer is another kind of vehicular accident, and it is a deadly one just because of the fact that a tractor-trailer is one of the largest and most dangerous vehicles in the world. It is estimated that there are more than 2 million tractor-trailers roaming in the United States, and each year, they get involved in about 500,000 accidents. And since the size of a tractor-trailer is enormous, the results of this kind of accident are catastrophic, from a severe injury to death.

Vehicular accidents, especially those involving trucks and motorcycles, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in truck/motorcycle accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
