San Antonio — Man Killed in Traffic Accident Involving 2 18-Wheelers on Interstate 10

Posted on Wednesday, June 26th, 2019 at 9:19 pm by Williams Hart

At around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019, a man was killed in a traffic accident involving two 18-wheelers that occurred on the Northeast Side of San Antonio, Texas.

According to initial reports, Gerardo Martinez Ortiz, 51, was driving his white Chevrolet Silverado on Interstate 10 when his vehicle was struck from behind by a driver in a green Freightliner 18-wheeler truck that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact of the collision pushed the pickup forward into another 18-wheeler’s trailer.

Ortiz was then pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Gerardo Martinez Ortiz. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a vehicular accident. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

An accident involving a tractor-trailer is a kind of vehicular accident, and it is a deadly one just because of the fact that a tractor-trailer is one of the largest and most dangerous vehicles in the world. It is estimated that there are more than 2 million tractor-trailers roaming in the United States, and each year, they get involved in about 500,000 accidents. And since the size of a tractor-trailer is enormous, the results of this kind of accident are catastrophic, from a severe injury to death.

Another particular kind of vehicular accident that is fairly common in the United States is a rear-end collision. It has been reported that there are about 1.7 million rear-end collisions in the U.S. every year, and from that number, roughly 1,700 people die while another 500,000 are injured. The National Transportation Safety Bureau (NTSB) also notes that 87% of rear-end collisions happened simply because the driver was not paying attention to the road.

Vehicular accidents, especially truck accidents and rear-end collisions, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents/truck accidents/rear-end collisions, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
