On Friday, March 8, 2019, a teenager from Corpus Christi was killed in a single-vehicle crash that happened on Country Road 48, three miles north of Robstown.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. Nathan Brandley, a 2008 Ford Mustang GT, occupied by five teenagers, was traveling west on County Road 48 when for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway to the right and collided with a cement culvert. Four of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle upon impact while the front passenger who was wearing a seatbelt was not ejected.
Justin Dylan Franco, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining four teenagers, ages 18 to 19, were brought to hospitals with serious injuries.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Justin Dylan Franco. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.
