On the afternoon of Thursday, October 10, 2019, 23 people were killed in a bus accident that occurred in Richards, Texas.

According to initial reports, two Huntsville ISD buses were traveling along FM 1791, en route to Montgomery, Texas, at a high rate of speed when all of a sudden, one of the buses rolled over. The bus did not have seatbelts.

7 students and 1 adult were transported by ambulance to Conroe Regional Hospital in Conroe, Texas for treatment of injuries. With EMS personnel on board, 13 other students and 2 adults were transported via HISD bus to the same hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure. A total of 23 people were injured. However, none of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening.

The 15 students traveling on the second bus were transferred over to a substitute HISD bus and transported back to Huntsville High School.

The driver of the bus was cited for going too fast.

The crash still remains under investigation.

It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Vehicular accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet, they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

An accident involving a bus is a particular kind of vehicular accident, and it is fairly common even though buses are often deemed as a safe mode of transportation. According to the NHTSA, between 2000 and 2007, there have been 1,093 fatal bus accidents, and from this number, about 1,315 people died, and 3,471 were injured. In other words, about 137 bus-crash-related fatalities occur every year.

Vehicular accidents, especially bus accidents, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in bus accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
