A Marine man survived after he was impaled by a pole during a car accident that occurred over the Christmas holiday break in 2018.
According to reports, Fernando Dominguez, 20, was driving on Texas State Highway 225, near Scarborough, heading home to spend time with his family and friends when he suddenly fell asleep behind the wheel. The next thing he knew was that he could not move and that he was pinned to his car seat, impaled by a metal pole. Using his feet to get his phone, he called 911 and was eventually flown to the hospital.
Dominguez has had multiple surgeries, but thankfully, he has now been discharged from the hospital and is surrounded by his family.
It is great to hear that Fernando Dominguez survived this horrific accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
There are three most common causes for car accidents, and these are DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), speeding, and driving while distracted. The latter seemed to be the case for Dominguez.
