Montgomery — Firefighter Dead After Helicopter Crashes in Sam Houston National Forest
Posted on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 at 10:07 pm by Williams Hart
At approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, a helicopter crashed in the Sam Houston National Forest, and it killed one person.
According to authorities, the helicopter was contracted by the United States Forest Service to help with two controlled burn operations that were scheduled on Wednesday, one for 1,583 acres near the intersection of FM 1375 and FS 233 in Walker County and the other for 969 acres south of FM 149 near FS 219 in Montgomery County. However, the helicopter crashed under unknown circumstances near the intersection of Bethel Road and FM 149, in northwest Montgomery County.
The pilot and a passenger survived the crash and were brought to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The passenger who died was a United States Forest Service firefighter.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unidentified firefighter. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. It is noted that airplane and helicopter crashes are significantly a lot more dangerous and devastating than other vehicular accidents simply because of the extreme heights and speeds involved with them. Serious physical injuries and emotional and psychological damage are the expected outcomes of an aviation accident.
Some of the common causes of aviation accidents are air traffic controller error, negligence by the airline, airplane or helicopter pilot error, pilot intoxication, and helicopter or airplane defects and malfunction.
Aside from the devastating nature of aviation accidents, cases involving them are substantially complex, and as a result, a trusted attorney is needed to help the victim and their family. So, if you’re a victim of an aviation accident, or you knows someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help.
