At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, a woman was killed and four children were injured in a rollover crash that occurred near Mathis, Texas.
According to initial reports, a 2004 Ford Expedition driven by 32-year-old Sonya Estrella Munoz was traveling along Interstate 37 when all of a sudden, the vehicle experienced a rear left blowout. The blowout then caused the vehicle to lose control, travel onto the median, and roll over several times.
Munoz was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were four children with her, and two of them were ejected. Three of the children were transported to Driscoll’s Children’s Hospital and are in critical condition. The fourth child was transported to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline in stable condition.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
A particular kind of vehicular accident that is considered to be one of the deadliest is a rollover. A 2010 statistics showed that rollovers comprised only 2.1% of nearly 9.1 million vehicular accidents, but they did account for well over 35% of all deaths. According to numerous studies, about 69% of the people who died from rollovers were not wearing any seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Vehicular accidents, especially those involving rollovers, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents/rollover accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
