At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019, two police officers were injured in a chase-related accident that occurred in west Houston, Texas.
According to initial reports, a group of undercover officers saw a group of men wrap a chain around an ATM in an attempt to steal it at the Members Choice Credit Union on North Fry Road. The two officers then began chasing a car carrying three of the suspects, but then the police vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree near Interstate 10 and Greenhouse Road. Both officers were sent to the hospital with minor injuries and are expected to be okay.
All of the suspects have been arrested later.
The crash still remains under investigation.
It is great to hear that the officers were not seriously injured in this accident. Unfortunately, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.
Car accidents are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families.
