At around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019, an incident that occurred at 10414 Richmond Avenue resulted to the death of a man.
According to the Houston Police Department Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Detective E. Contreras, HPD patrol officers received a disturbance call at 10414 Richmond Avenue, and upon their arrival at the aforementioned address, they found Gregory Yarber, 55, in the street, yelling that someone was trying to kill him.
Yarber was then transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on February 4, 2019.
The Houston Police are still waiting for the autopsy results to determine the cause of death of Gregory Yarber. Investigation is still underway for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of Gregory Yarber. Alas, he is not the first victim whose life is taken away by murder. According to statistics, there were a total of 17,284 reported murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases in the United States in 2017. This number actually shows a decline in the past 20 years, but if compared to other countries, the murder rate in the U.S. is still quite high. The three states with the most number of murders in the U.S. in 2017 were California, Texas, and Florida with 1,830, 1,412, and 1,057 respectively.
Murder, homicide, and violent crime statistics constantly have an impact on America’s current political debate on gun law. Though many have argued that any casual connection between gun/firearm circulation and homicide rate is simply hypothetical, the number of murders by firearm is nevertheless high. About 73% of murders and non-negligent manslaughter cases were carried using a firearm.
