Houston — Man Dies After Falling from Building on Caroline Street

Posted on Sunday, October 20th, 2019 at 8:32 pm by Williams Hart

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019, a man was killed in a tragic accident that occurred in downtown Houston, Texas.

According to initial reports, the man was denied entry to a club located on the corner of Caroline Street and Dallas Street. And so, he may have tried to gain entry to the club by climbing the building. However, he fell from the third-story balcony and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident still remains under investigation.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unidentified man. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Essentially, wrongful death is a claim against a person who can be held liable for a death. Any fatality caused by wrongful acts of another may result in a wrongful death claim. Many wrongful death claims are based upon death as a result of negligence, such as a motor vehicle accident caused by another driver or medical malpractice.

In the United States, wrongful death is a cause of action or a type of claim, that can be brought when one person or entity wrongfully causes someone’s death. This allows a lawsuit to be filed even when the person who was harmed is no longer alive to bring the case. Each state has its own wrongful death statute. In some states, the family of the decedent must bring two different types of claims: a wrongful death claim to recover the full value of the life of the deceased, and a survival claim on the behalf of the decedent’s estate to recover for funeral expenses, pain and suffering, or punitive damages.

Wrongful deaths are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families.
