At around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020, a car vs. motorcycle collision occurred in Houston, Texas, and it claimed the life of one man.
According to initial reports, a black Chevrolet Avalanche was turning left into a parking lot in the 5700 block of North Wayside Drive without yielding the right of way. Meanwhile, a man was operating a black Harley Davidson motorcycle, and he struck the Chevrolet.
The motorcyclist was then transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Friday, February 7.
The crash still remains under investigation.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unidentified motorcyclist. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Motorcycle accidents, a type of vehicular accident, are common despite the fact that motorcycles are initially believed to be far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. In 2016, the NHTSA reported that 5,286 people died in motorcycle accidents. In the same year as well, it is reported that motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.
Vehicular accidents, especially those involving motorcycles, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in motorcycle accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
