At approximately 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019, a man sustained critical injuries after his motorcycle crashed in northwest Harris County, Texas due to road rage.
According to authorities, a woman and her child were in a tan Chevrolet Suburban that was making a left turn onto North Eldridge Parkway from Cypress North Houston Road when the woman heard a motorcycle revving behind her. The motorcyclist on a black Harley-Davidson sped past the woman on the right and flipped her off before getting in front of her and flipping her off again. When they were nearing the intersection of Mills Lane, the motorcyclist then lost control of his vehicle and crashed, hitting his head on the curb.
The motorcyclist was then flown to a hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Suburban stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the unidentified motorcyclist. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a vehicular accident. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Motorcycle accidents, a type of vehicular accident, are common despite the fact that motorcycles are initially believed to be far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. In 2016, the NHTSA reported that 5,286 people died in motorcycle accidents. In the same year as well, it is reported that motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.
Vehicular accidents, especially those involving motorcycles, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families.
