At around 10:35 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019, a crash that occurred at 221 North Hagerman Street killed one woman.
According to the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Maness and Officer D. Nguyen, the victim, a 71-year-old woman, was unlocking the gate to her residence so that her sister-in-law, who was driving a black Nissan Sentra, could enter. However, the sister-in-law claimed that her foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator, thus causing the car to drive forward and hit the victim.
The victim was brought to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was unfortunately pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the driver stayed at the scene, and there are no charges filed yet for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unnamed woman. Alas, she is only one of the many people whose lives are taken away by a car accident. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet, they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them annually.
Car accidents are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families.
