A man was killed after he crashed his vehicle into an exit ramp on Interstate 45 in southeast Houston at around 11:30 in the evening on Saturday, January 12, 2019.
According to reports, an unidentified 50-year-old man was driving a black Ford F-150 truck, heading south on the Gulf Freeway service road when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle. The truck then collided into a part of the HOV exit ramp, causing it to spin back out in the feeder lanes. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unnamed victim. Alas, he is only one of the very many victims of a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
There are three most common causes for car accidents, and these are DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), speeding, and driving while distracted. Moreover, the NHTSA reports that 15% of fatal car accidents occur near intersections while 85% occur on the open road.
Car accidents are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families.
