Houston County — Dead Body Found on County Road 1135

At around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019, a dead body was found on County Road 1135 in the Tadmor area of Houston County.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Cadarius Williams, a 24-year-old man from Lufkin, and deputies are treating this case as a homicide. The body was subsequently brought to a medical examiner for an autopsy.
It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of Cadarius Williams. Alas, he is not the first victim whose life is taken away by murder. According to statistics, there were a total of 17,284 reported murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases in the United States in 2017. This number actually shows a decline in the past 20 years, but if compared to other countries, the murder rate in the U.S. is still quite high. The three states with the most number of murders in the U.S. in 2017 were California, Texas, and Florida with 1,830, 1,412, and 1,057 respectively.
Murder, homicide, and violent crime statistics constantly have an impact on America’s current political debate on gun law. Though many have argued that any casual connection between gun/firearm circulation and homicide rate is simply hypothetical, the number of murders by firearm is nevertheless high. About 73% of murders and non-negligent manslaughter cases were carried using a firearm.
