Houston — Children, Father Hurt in Hit-And-Run T-Bone Collision on Telephone Road

Posted on Sunday, September 15th, 2019 at 8:00 pm by Williams Hart

Just before midnight on Saturday, September 14, 2019, three children and their father were injured in a hit-and-run T-bone collision that occurred in Houston, Texas.

According to initial reports, a car that was carrying the father and his three children was making a left turn from Broad Street onto Telephone Road when a car with four people inside ran a red light as it was traveling westbound on Telephone Road. As a result, the two vehicles crashed into each other.

One of the children was thrown from the vehicle upon collision. As a result, the child has several cuts on the forehead, and the other two children sustained broken arms. They were all transported to Texas Children’s Hospital for treatment. The father was also transported to a hospital for his injuries.

All four people inside the other car left the scene and had someone pick them up in a dark-colored Dodge Charger.

The crash still remains under investigation.

It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims that suffered the same fate. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

A particular kind of car accident that is fairly common and also incredibly dangerous is the broadside collision, also known as the T-bone or side-impact collision. This kind of car accident involves a vehicle being hit on its side by the front end of another vehicle. Crash research and analysis of accident data have shown that broadside accidents represent 13% of all car accidents in the United States and that 18% of all fatal car accidents are broadside-style collisions.

Additionally, the NHTSA reported that about 8,000 people are killed every year in this type of accident. And more often than not, if someone is lucky enough to survive this collision, they might suffer from other severe injuries, such as brain injuries, broken bones, internal injuries, and back, neck, and spine injuries. Passengers on the struck side of the vehicle often sustain injuries far worse than those received in rear-end crashes.

Car accidents, especially broadside collisions, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents/broadside collisions, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers.
