Houston — Child Dies After Car Crashes into Disabled Car on North Freeway

At approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019, a fatal accident occurred in Houston, Texas, and it claimed the life of one child.
The Houston Police Department reported that the driver of a blue Honda CR-V was traveling northbound on North Freeway when she lost control of the vehicle because of a possible medical episode. As a result, she then crossed multiple lanes of traffic and struck a tan Toyota Prius that was disabled and parked on the right shoulder in the 11500 block of the freeway.
A young girl, who was in a rear car seat, was seriously injured and was brought to Texas Children’s Hospital where she later died the next day, May 6.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the young girl. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
There are three most common causes for car accidents, and these are DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), speeding, and driving while distracted. Other possible causes for car accidents include medical episodes/emergencies, age, and even the weather (for example, the fog making the roads not visible, or the rain making the road slippery, etc.).
Car accidents are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families.
