On Sunday, March 3, 2019, a car crashed through a barrier and fell off the road, landing onto a freeway below in Houston, Texas.
According to Houston Police, the driver was traveling northbound on Interstate 45 when suddenly, the car went off the right side of the road, crashed through a barrier, and fell down onto Allen Parkway. The driver sustained minor injuries from this accident.
No other injuries had been reported.
It is great to hear that the unidentified driver survived this horrific accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
There are three most common causes for car accidents, and these are DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol), driving while distracted, and speeding. According to initial investigation for this particular accident, the latter seems to be the factor.
