Houston — 2 Hit-And-Run Crashes on North Harris County Injure About 3 People

Around early morning on Monday, April 15, 2019, two hit-and-run crashes occurred simultaneously in north Houston, Texas, and it injured about three people.
According to initial reports, the first crash happened when a Buick struck the back end of a Dodge pickup truck near Airline Drive and West Gulf Bank Road at around 1:15 a.m. Both drivers fled away.
However, a Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy witnessed what happened and attempted to chase the pickup truck, but the pickup simply kept going until it crashed into a Nissan Maxima and left the scene again. The chase finally ended when the pickup crashed into a power pole located at the intersection of West Gulf Bank Road and North Freeway. The pole snapped at the base, causing the power lines to land into a tree and catch on fire.
The female driver of the pickup tried to leave the scene on foot, but she was later arrested. The driver of the Buick was also eventually caught.
This accident resulted in three injuries: one person in the Nissan and two passengers inside the pickup — an adult and a teenager. They were all brought to a nearby hospital.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet, they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
A particular kind of vehicular accident that is quite common and deadly is a hit-and-run. According to a study done by roadside-assistance giant AAA, there were 2,049 hit-and-run deaths that occurred in 2016. This number is the highest annual total on record, and in the decade leading up to that number, 682,000 hit-and-run crashes happened each year.
