Houston — 2 Deputy Officers Hospitalized After Teen Driver Crashes into Patrol Vehicles on East Freeway
Posted on Sunday, July 28th, 2019 at 7:55 pm by Williams Hart
On the early morning of Sunday, July 28, 2019, two deputy officers were injured after a teenager crashed into their vehicles in Houston, Texas.
According to initial reports, the deputy officers were performing a felony traffic stop on the East Freeway, near Mercury Drive, when a white Dodge Challenger, driven by the teenager, crashed into their patrol vehicles.
As a result, the deputies were brought to an area hospital for their injuries. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old driver was believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash and was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer.
Both deputies are expected to be okay.
An investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is great to hear that the two deputy officers are expected to recover from this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who are not as lucky. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
There are three common causes of car accidents, and these are speeding, driving while distracted, and DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol). DUI, in particular, is quite appalling. The NHTSA reports that about 28 people die every day because of drunken driving crashes, and in 2010, 10,228 people died in DUI accidents while about 345,000 were injured. All these numbers paint a terrible picture indeed.
Car accidents, especially DUI ones, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families. Thankfully, there are lawyers that specialize in car accidents/DUI accidents, so if you are a victim of this kind of accident, or you know someone who is, or you lost a loved one because of this, then please never hesitate to ask for help from these lawyers. They will help you in protecting your rights and in getting you the justice that you deserve.
