Holland — Driver Dies After Amtrak Train Hits Vehicle on Mills Lane

Posted on Thursday, April 25th, 2019 at 9:00 pm by Williams Hart

At approximately 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019, one person was killed in a car vs. train collision that occurred in Bell County, Texas.

According to initial reports, the male driver was traveling on Mills Lane, just off Texas State Highway 95 and north of Holland, when at a crossing, his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The train was carrying 73 passengers and 11 crew members at the time of the crash. None of them was injured.

Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.

It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unidentified driver. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a vehicular accident. Vehicular accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

Moreover, an accident involving a train is another particular kind of vehicular accident, and though it is not as common as the other kinds, it can still be quite deadly. The National Transportation Safety Bureau has reported that almost every 2 hours, a person or a vehicle is hit by a train in the United States. A few of the common scenarios in this kind of vehicular accident include derailment, train-train collisions, train-car collisions, train-person collisions, and damage to property.

Additionally, studies have shown that nearly 1,000 people die every year in the U.S. due to a train accident.

Vehicular accidents, particularly those involving trains, are undeniably devastating to the victims and their respective families. They can also be complicated.
