Posted on Monday, December 2nd, 2019 at 8:01 pm by Williams Hart
Just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2019, two people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident that occurred in Robertson County, Texas.
According to initial reports, an Infiniti car and a Ford SUV were both traveling southbound on Texas State Highway 6 when for an unknown reason, the Infiniti struck the SUV, pushing it into the northbound lanes. As a result, the SUV collided with a third car that was traveling northbound.
The driver, 19-year-old Wesley Sanders, and the passenger, 22-year-old Maegan Sanders, in the SUV were both pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the third car, 25-year-old Douglas Leighton, was taken to a hospital in Temple with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Infiniti, 19-year-old Conor Lowen, was uninjured.
The crash still remains under investigation.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
A specific kind of car accident that is incredibly deadly is a head-on collision. The reason why a head-on collision is said to be incredibly deadly is because of the increased force that is sustained by both vehicles. Reports estimate that head-on collisions only comprise 2% of reported crashes, but they account for over 10% of driving fatalities. Some of the common outcomes of a head-on collision are spinal injuries, brain injuries, catastrophic injuries, broken bones, paralysis, and of course death.
Car accidents, especially head-on collisions, are quite difficult for the victims and their respective families.
