Fort Worth — Man Dead After Police Chase Accident
Posted on Sunday, February 24th, 2019 at 9:26 pm
At around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, a man was dead after a police car chase accident that occurred in Fort Worth.
According to police reports, the Fort Worth Police were trying to catch up to a stolen vehicle in the 4000 block of Hemphill Street, but then the suspect vehicle struck a light pole. He was brought to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he later died there.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to unidentified man. Alas, he is not the only whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet, they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
In addition to this, a police car chase is not uncommon in the United States. In fact, in 2012, about 68,000 vehicle pursuits were reported. It is also common for police chases to end in death or injury. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that from 1996 to 2015, an average of 355 people were killed every year in pursuit-related accidents. A third of the number consist of innocent bystanders, and a USA Today investigation has noted that chases kill black people — both as innocent bystanders and as the target of the pursuit — 3 times more than anybody else.
