On the morning of Tuesday, April 30, 2019, a Navasota man was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in Leon County, Texas.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Michael McGinnis, 29, was driving a 2013 Ford Super Duty F-550, hauling a gooseneck flatbed trailer, on FM 39, north of Flynn, when the front left tire of the vehicle had a blowout. As a result, McGinnis lost control of the vehicle, and the pickup crossed lanes, left the roadway, and collided into a tree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Michael McGinnis. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.
