Williams Hart wins a $38M Depakote award

The verdict, won by Williams Hart attorneys and partners including John Eddie, John Boundas, Sejal Brahmbhatt, Margot Trevino, and Brian Abramson, continues to reverberate in the legal community and make national news. This award includes $23 million in punitive damages in addition to $15 million in compensatory damages. Expect more coverage in the coming weeks. This is a great verdict, and exemplifies the jury trial leadership for which Williams Hart is known.
The verdict against Abbott was due to the fact that Abbott underplayed the risk of birth defects, making it appear that Depakote had about the same level as other anti-epileptic drugs available. As John Eddie and John were able to argue, in reality it was the most dangerous anti-epileptic drug.
