At approximately 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019, a driver was killed in a wrong-way collision that occurred in Dallas, Texas.
According to initial reports, a man was traveling southbound on Garland Road when in the 8500 block, he unsafely turned and drove over the center median and into the northbound lanes of traffic. As a result, he collided head-on with another vehicle, occupied by a 34-year-old man and a woman, that was traveling northbound in the right lane.
The wrong way driver was brought to Baylor Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the occupants of the other vehicle were also transported to Baylor Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of the unidentified man. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
A specific kind of car accident that is incredibly deadly is a head-on collision. The reason why a head-on collision is said to be incredibly deadly is because of the increased force that is sustained by both vehicles. Reports estimate that head-on collisions only comprise 2% of reported crashes, but they account for over 10% of driving fatalities. Some of the common outcomes of a head-on collision are spinal injuries, brain injuries, catastrophic injuries, broken bones, paralysis, and of course death.
