At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019, a student at Duncanville High School was killed in a crash that happened along Interstate 20.
According to Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old woman was driving along the Interstate 20 frontage road at a high rate of speed when all of a sudden, she lost control and struck a tree. The girl at the front passenger seat, 16-year-old Diamond Finley, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver was brought to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas and was stable, but the passengers in the back seat — a boy and a girl, both 17 — were hospitalized with critical injuries.
Speed is determined as the cause of this crash.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Diamond Finley. Alas, she is not the only one whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.
