Corpus Christi — Woman Dead After 3-Vehicle Accident on SPID

Posted on Sunday, February 24th, 2019 at 8:46 pm by Williams Hart

At around 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, a 3-vehicle accident that occurred in Corpus Christi left one woman dead.

According to police reports, a 60-year-old woman was driving a gray mercury along the westbound lanes of South Padre Island Drive, between Everhart Road and Weber Road, when suddenly, she slammed head-on into the highway barrier. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigation is still ongoing for this accident as it is still unclear as to how the other two vehicles were involved in this.

It is unfortunate to hear of the passing of the unidentified woman. Alas, she is not the only one whose life is taken away because of a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.

The three common causes of car accidents are speeding, driving while distracted, and DUI (driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol). Additionally, not wearing a seatbelt is another possible factor that can increase the chances of dying in a car crash. It has been noted that seatbelts reduce the risk of death by 45%, and they also cut the risk of critical injury by 50%. Thus, people not wearing a seatbelt are 30 times more likely to die in a vehicular crash.

Car accidents are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families.
