On Friday, March 8, 2019, a man was killed in a fatal single-vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 37 at Callicoatte Road in Corpus Christi, Texas.
According to Corpus Christi Police, a 79-year-old woman was driving in the middle lane of Interstate 37 when she saw a truck with its emergency lights on. Because of this, she turned to the right hand lane to avoid the truck, but then she lost control of the car, and as a result, it spun and crashed into the barriers.
The woman and her husband, 86-year-old James Hales, were brought to the hospital, but unfortunately, Hales later died from his injuries.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of this crash.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to James Hale. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
Moreover, statistics show that about 16% of these car accidents are crashes where the vehicle leaves the road. In this type of car crash, a car would usually collide into a lamppost, a tree, or a building, etc. Lamppost and tree collisions comprise about 31% of fatalities in this type of vehicular accident.
