A ruling that previously favored BP in a multi-million dollar dispute over insurance coverage was reversed by a New Orleans federal appeals court on Thursday, August 29.
BP is pushing for a portion of the $750 million insurance coverage in order to help them shoulder pollution-related expenses from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, claiming they are entitled to it based on the existing insurance agreement of a drilling contractor.
In November of 2010, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier disagreed with the London-based multinational oil company’s version of the insurance policy. Then on March 1, Barbier’s verdict was reversed by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans in favor of BP. However, Barbier’s ruling against BP remains in effect until the New Orleans appeals court council talks with the Texas Supreme Court in order to allow the federal appeals court finally make a decision on the case.

A massive multi-car pile up on Thanksgiving morning left two dead and 80 people injured on 1-10, just southwest of Beaumont, Texas. Physical injury, emotional suffering, and extensive financial costs can linger long after the accident is over.
