Serious accidents may require emergency medical attention and hospitalization. In order to assist our valued clients any way we can, our personal injury lawyers have put together an up-to-date list of major trauma centers in Houston. We’ve included most of the general facts about each major facility below, but encourage you to seek more information about each to see what suits your needs best.

Trauma centers are usually found in hospital emergency rooms, and thus are usually found in a major hospital as part of their emergency system. Trauma centers are equipped to deal with situations in which patients require immediate medical attention after traumatic injuries such as car crashes, gunshot wounds, and most any blunt force trauma. Major trauma centers are organized into three categories: Levels I, II and III.

Level I

Level I trauma centers provide 24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons, and prompt availability of care in specialties such as:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Pediatric Care
  • Radiology
  • Internal Medicine
  • Neurosurgery
  • Anesthesiology
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Critical Care

They serve as a referral resource for communities in nearby regions and provide leadership in prevention and public education to surrounding communities.

There are three Level I trauma centers in the Houston Area, which are:

Harris Health System Ben Taub Hospital

1504 Ben Taub Loop, Houston, TX 77030

Level III

Houston does not have any Level II trauma centers, but it has many in Level III. Level III trauma centers provide 24-hour immediate coverage and prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization of injured patients. They have all developed transfer agreements for patients who require more comprehensive care to a Level I or Level II Trauma Center. These also serve as backups for rural and community hospitals.

There are seven Level III Trauma Centers in Houston which are as follows:
