Brownsville — 13-Year-Old Boy Dead After Rollover Crash on Southmost Road
Posted on Monday, March 4th, 2019 at 10:42 pm
At around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019, a teenager was killed in a rollover crash that occurred in Brownsville, Texas.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a man was driving a gray 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup south on Southmost Boulevard when at the intersection of Monsees Road, he was struck by a white 2002 GMC Yukon that was traveling eastbound on Monsees Road. The GMC then lost control, struck a tree, and then overturned into an empty canal. Rodrigo Mancilla, the 13-year-old passenger in the GMC, was brought to Valley Baptist Medical Center, but unfortunately, he died there. The other injured victims were also brought to Valley Baptist Medical Center for treatment.
Investigation is still ongoing for this accident.
It is unfortunate to hear of the death of Rodrigo Mancilla. Alas, he is not the only one whose life is taken away by a car accident. Car accidents like this are awfully common nowadays. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
A particular kind of vehicular accident that is considered to be one of the deadliest is a rollover. A 2010 statistics showed that rollovers comprised only 2.1% of nearly 9.1 million vehicular accidents, but they did account for well over 35% of all deaths. According to numerous studies, about 69% of the people who died from rollovers were not wearing any seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Vehicular accidents, especially those rollovers, are quite difficult to the victims and their respective families.
