In a court filing on June 27, BP asked a federal judge to order the return of overpaid funds plus interest from payments made to businesses that claimed losses due to the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the Associated Press reported.
BP said the court should mandate a recalculation of the awards because it was agreed in courts last May that the policy for calculating losses needed to be revised. Meanwhile, BP continues to contest the court’s decision that businesses don’t need to provide proof that they were directly affected by the oil spill in order to get compensation from the company.
