BP dropped appeal to have oil spill claims administrator removed

London-based oil giant British Petroleum Plc recently dismissed its own appeal to have Lafayette, Louisiana lawyer Patrick Juneau removed as oil spill claims administrator of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill due to allegations of conflict of interest.
Juneau welcomed this recent development, and was “pleased with BP’s decision to withdraw its [two-year] attempt to remove me as the claims administrator”.
According to legal analysts, it is questionable for BP to have made the appeal to remove Juneau as oil spill claims administrator, given that BP had less than proper standing in the case, and that a negative ruling can limit BP’s ability to make similar appeals in the future.
