Austin — Hit-And-Run Accident on Palo Blanco Lane Critically Injures Child

At approximately 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019, three people, including a child, were hospitalized after they got involved in a crash in Austin, Texas.
According to the Austin Police Department, a car was traveling northbound on Palo Blanco Lane and turned onto Teri Road. However, a truck, which had multiple occupants inside, struck the car’s back end and passenger door and immediately fled the scene. Police officers believe they know the identity of the driver of the truck who will likely face charges of failure to stop and render aid.
The family inside the struck car suffered injuries, with the little girl sustaining critical ones. She was brought to Dell Children’s Medical Center where she is still in critical condition. Her parents, on the other hand, were not badly hurt.
It is unfortunate to hear of what happened to the victims in this accident. Alas, there are countless other victims who suffered the same fate. Car accidents are a problem in this day and age, and yet, they still continue to happen on a regular basis. In a statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car accidents occur almost every minute of every day, and for every 16 minutes, someone dies from a car accident. This can be translated to be about 6 million car accidents every year and about 37,000 people dying from them.
A particular kind of vehicular accident that is quite common and deadly is a hit-and-run. According to a study done by roadside-assistance giant AAA, there were 2,049 hit-and-run deaths that occurred in 2016. This number is the highest annual total on record, and in the decade leading up to that number, 682,000 hit-and-run crashes happened each year.
